Protection for drive shaft and joint from high exhaust heat
With the GreenFuchs drive shaft heat shield, we offer a simple and practical solution for an area that can be subject to high thermal stress, especially in vehicles driven in a sporty manner.
The heat shield is positioned between the exhaust system and the drive shaft, effectively shielding the drive shaft from the heat radiated by the exhaust system. Additional thermal shielding is particularly useful in the area of the inner drive shaft joint and its rubber boot, as high temperatures can increase the thermal stress on these components.
Why do you need a heat shield for the drive shaft at all?
In the 86/BRZ, the exhaust system runs in close proximity to the drive shaft. Under normal road conditions, the standard design is generally sufficient. However, with increasing thermal stress – for example during long, fast drives, sporty driving, or on the racetrack – the heat development in the underbody area becomes significantly higher.
Additional thermal shielding can be particularly useful during prolonged high loads or continuous stress. This applies, for example, to vehicles that are regularly driven in a sporty manner, used on track days, or equipped with a modified exhaust system.
This is precisely where the GreenFuchs heat shield comes in: It creates an additional thermal barrier between the exhaust system and the drive shaft.
The goal is not to actively cool the drive shaft, but to reduce direct heat radiation onto the adjacent components.
Particularly interesting for sporty use
For a standard road vehicle, additional heat protection is not strictly necessary. The shielding becomes interesting particularly when the thermal stress on the exhaust system is increased.
This includes, for example:
-
Frequent sporty driving
-
Longer trips with high load or continuous stress
-
Racetrack and track day use
-
Vehicles with a modified or thermally stressed exhaust system
-
Other performance modifications
Vehicle-specific installation
The heat shield is designed for the specific vehicle platform and is mounted directly to the differential using the existing mounting points.
You simply loosen the 2 bolts and tighten them back to the specified 47 Nm. The remaining bolts continue to keep the differential cover sealed without any issues.
This means you can install the cover under the car in 5 minutes.
As a result, no complex adjustments or additional construction are required. The positioning is targeted between the exhaust system and the drive shaft.
GreenFuchs – a practical solution at a fair price
As with our other in-house brand products, we follow a simple approach here too: A sensible technical solution does not have to be unnecessarily expensive.
The drive shaft heat shield is a comparatively simple component with a clearly defined task. We therefore offer a practical and attractively priced solution for additional thermal shielding.
Anyone driving their 86/BRZ, especially under high thermal stress, can specifically protect a thermally stressed area – with minimal installation effort.

Conclusion
The GreenFuchs drive shaft heat shield is not a spectacular tuning part – and that is exactly what makes it interesting.
It addresses a concrete technical point: the thermal stress on the drive shaft caused by the adjacent exhaust system. The stainless steel plate creates an additional shield between the two components and can thus help to reduce heat radiation onto the area of the drive shaft and joint boot.
For vehicles driven in a sporty manner, track tools, or vehicles with a thermally stressed or modified exhaust system, the heat shield is therefore a small but sensible addition.
And thanks to the direct bolting to the differential, installation is completed in just a few minutes – exactly the type of uncomplicated and practical upgrade that GreenFuchs stands for.
